Vitamin B12 injections are often promoted and used by some weight loss or Wellness programs, to “boost metabolism” or to “support weight loss” (Vitamin B12 & Weight Loss: Facts from BeLite Medical Center).
Vitamin B12 is an essential vitamin, and injections are used for individuals who cannot absorb the vitamin orally, or who have severe deficiency symptoms. There is no peer reviewed published data showing that B12 injections boost metabolism or assist weight loss. This is why BELITE has not offered Vitamin B12 injections. However, some patients ask for the injections, and since B12 is water-soluble and well tolerated, we now offer B12 injections to patients who request it and have no medical contraindications.
In contrast, for patients who have difficulty losing weight with diet and exercise alone, FDA-approved weight loss medications, when prescribed and monitored by an experienced licensed medical provider, are a proven safe and effective method for losing medically and cosmetically meaningful weight.
At BELITE, weight loss medications like Wegovy [semaglutide] and Zepbound [tirzepatide] often help patients safely lose “amazing” or “life changing” amounts of weight [Tirzepatide vs. Semaglutide: Which Weight Loss Drug Works Better? [May 2025 NEJM Study Explained] – BeLite Medical Center]. Other patients do well with oral medications like phentermine and the supplement, 5-hydroxytryptophan (5-HTP).
At BELITE, we want you to enroll in a program that you are comfortable with, and which offers safe and effective treatments prescribed by experienced and expert licensed medical providers. We suggest that when considering enrolling in a weight loss clinic or program, ask about Vitamin B12 injections, and, if they are offered, ask what scientific evidence supports using these injections, and why the program is promoting treatments that don’t work.
